Spencer Arrighetti, who the Blue Jays acquired at the Trade Deadline for outfielder Daulton Varsho, made his first rehab appearance in Toronto’s system on Thursday, but he left early with an apparent injury.
The 26-year-old Arrighetti, who has been on the injured list since July 25 with right foot nerve irritation, was removed after 2 1/3 hitless innings with Triple-A Buffalo. He threw 39 pitches before he was lifted from the game.
In 17 starts for the Astros this season, Arrighetti had a 4.60 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 88 innings. The right-hander owns a career 4.66 ERA with 289 strikeouts in 268 1/3 innings. His best season came as a rookie in 2024, when Arrighetti had a 4.53 ERA with 171 strikeouts in 145 innings.
Before his latest potential setback, it seemed like we would see Arrighetti on an MLB mound at some point in August. Now, that timetable is a little more uncertain.
