Blue Jays claim Payamps

February 11th, 2021

The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed RHP Joel Payamps off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Shun Yamaguchi has been designated for assignment.

Payamps, 26, spent most of his 2020 campaign at the Diamondbacks’ alternate training site but made two Major League appearances. The 6-2, 225 lb. righty was claimed by the Red Sox in November but was designated for assignment last week. The native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, has four career big-league appearances under his belt, combining for five strikeouts and three earned runs allowed over 7.0 innings of work. Payamps was originally signed by the Rockies in 2010 and has gone 41-43 with a 4.15 ERA in 145 Minor League games.
