Contreras, Baez in close All-Star races

LOS ANGELES -- Cubs catcher and second baseman continue to challenge in close races in the latest Camping World MLB All-Star Ballot voting update, which was released on Monday.

Baez, Contreras, first baseman and third baseman all are in second place at their respective positions in the latest National League ballot. is third among NL shortstops.
In the NL's closest race, the Giants' , a five-time All-Star, is the top vote-getter among catchers with 1,037,368 votes, while Contreras has received 945,347. Contreras is trying to become the first Cubs catcher since (2008) to win a fan election in the All-Star balloting.
Baez, who has 14 home runs and 50 RBIs, has gotten 1,186,243 votes, second to the Braves' (1,408,469). Neither Contreras nor Baez have been named to an All-Star team.
Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is the top NL vote-getter, receiving 2,199,904 votes. Rizzo, a three-time All-Star, has gotten 899,953.
Two-time All-Star Bryant (1,060,467 votes) is second to the Rockies' (1,706,923) among NL third basemen.
Russell has received 771,478 votes. The Giants' (1,701,098) leads NL shortstops, and he's followed by the Braves' Dansby Swanson (888,077).
Among the NL outfielders, the Cubs' is seventh with 750,688 votes, is eighth (706,374) and is ninth (684,377). The Braves' leads all outfielders with 1,829,276 votes.
Fans may cast votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Ballot until Thursday, July 5, at 10:59 p.m. CT. On smartphones and tablets, fans can also access the ballot via the MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark mobile apps. Each fan can vote up to five times in any 24-hour period, for a maximum of 35 ballots cast.
Following the announcement of this year's All-Star starters, reserves and pitchers, fans should return to MLB.com and cast their 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Final Vote for the final player on each league's roster. Then on Tuesday, July 17, while watching the 2018 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard live on FOX, fans may visit MLB.com to submit their choices for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet with the 2018 MLB All-Star Game MVP Vote.
