Cheers, Kersh! Retired ace takes in Dodgers win from front row

Over the years, legendary Dodgers left-hander Sandy Koufax has often been seen cheering on his old club from a front-row seat at Dodger Stadium. The Hall of Famer has been on hand for many iconic moments for the franchise, including three World Series titles in the past six years.

But on Friday night at Chavez Ravine, it was another legendary Dodgers southpaw cheering from the stands. After Max Muncy launched his 13th home run of the season in the second inning, was seen rooting on his former teammates as the Dodgers went on to beat the Phillies, 4-2. Taking in the game alongside Kershaw was country music star Brad Paisley, another familiar face at Dodger Stadium and a longtime Dodgers fan.

Upon crossing home plate, Muncy acknowledged Kershaw’s presence by pumping his fists in celebration of his homer and the great memories of playing alongside Kershaw for so many years.

The symmetry is striking. Kershaw, of course, is along with Koufax considered one of the greatest left-handed starting pitchers in baseball history. Each of them wore Dodger blue for his entire career, and each has demonstrated his loyalty even as a fan after retirement.

Kershaw, a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner, 2014 NL MVP, 11-time All-Star and a three-time World Series champion, retired following the Dodgers’ second consecutive World Series championship in 2025. But that doesn’t mean he won’t be a frequent guest at Dodger Stadium as his former club goes for a three-peat.
