LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers today recalled right-handed pitcher Pedro Báez and left-handed pitcher Edward Paredes from Triple-A Oklahoma City. To create room on the active roster, the Dodgers placed left-handed reliever Tony Cingrani on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain and optioned left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson to OKC.
Báez, 30, who was optioned to Oklahoma City prior to last night's game, has appeared in 28 games with Los Angeles this season going 2-3 with a 3.25 ERA (10 ER/27.2 IP) and has struck out 35 batters against 16 walks in 27.2 innings of relief. In his last nine games with the Dodgers since May 19, the Dominican Republic native has posted a 1-1 record and has allowed just two runs (one earned) over 8.0 innings (1.13 ERA) and has held hitters to a .148 average (4-for-27), while punching out eight batters against five walks.
Paredes, 31, will make his third stint with the big league club this season and has appeared in one game with Los Angeles, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings of relief on May 3 at Arizona. In 18 relief appearances with Oklahoma City this year, the southpaw has gone 2-2 with two saves and has posted a 2.00 ERA (4 ER/18.0 IP), while limiting the opposition to a .224 average. He has also struck out 24 batters over 18.0 innings.
Cingrani, 28, was taken out of the game last night against the Pirates after facing one batter, which he walked. The southpaw, who will make his second stint on the disabled list this season (previous: May 9-19, left shoulder inflammation), has gone 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA (12 ER/22.1 IP) and has struck out 36 batters against just six walks over 22.1 innings.
Ferguson, 21, made his Major League debut last night with the start against the Pirates, allowing four runs on two hits over 1.2 innings as he did not factor in the decision. He struck out three batters and issued three walks, while also hitting two hitters.
