Turner sits after HBP to elbow; X-rays negative

Freese nearing activation; Seager, Pollock play in sim game

July 3rd, 2019

LOS ANGELES -- X-rays on the left elbow and wrist of Dodgers third baseman were negative, but he was out of the starting lineup on Tuesday night against the D-backs.

Turner had residual soreness after being hit by a Chad Bettis pitch on the elbow in Sunday’s 10-5 win over the Rockies. Manager Dave Roberts said Turner also had doctors check his left wrist, which was hit by a Matt Andriese pitch on March 29.

If Turner’s wrist has been hurting for months, it probably explains why he has only nine home runs and only three since May 11. It’s the same wrist that was broken by a pitch in Spring Training last year, sidelining Turner the first six weeks of the season.

Roberts said Turner was available Tuesday night and might start on Wednesday.

Injury updates
David Freese, Corey Seager and A.J. Pollock are expected to return to active duty from injuries by the time the Dodgers come out of the All-Star break, or sooner.

Roberts said Freese will be activated by the end of this week after running the bases to test a strained left hamstring.

Seager, returning from a strained left hamstring, and Pollock, returning from elbow surgery, participated in a simulated game on Tuesday.

Roberts said Seager probably will have a Minor League rehab assignment. But Pollock, who has been out since April 29, will definitely have a Minor League rehab assignment before returning to his starting center field position.
