Kelsie Whitmore was the top overall Draft pick in the inaugural season of the Women’s Professional Baseball League for a reason. And she’s been showing off lately.
Whitmore mashed two more home runs on Friday -- including a grand slam -- after recording the first three-homer game in WPBL history on Thursday. She finished 2-for-4 on the night with six RBIs at the dish, while she also took the mound. The two-way star dealt four innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and striking out two.
All that helped add up to a dominant 17-2 win for Whitmore and the San Francisco Firebelles over the Los Angeles Queens.
Whitmore’s work at the plate Friday drew her into a tie for the league lead with five home runs in six games, matching New York’s Denae Benites. Whitmore’s 13 RBIs also have her second, behind only Benites’ 15.
The hot-hitting superstars will pit their talents against each other Saturday, with San Francisco and New York squaring off at 2 p.m. ET.
