MIAMI – Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez tossed a one-hitter on the 10-year anniversary of José Fernández’s passing in Friday night’s 3-0 win over the Braves at loanDepot park.
The lone hit against Pérez was a Sean Murphy leadoff single to left field in the sixth, which he quickly negated by inducing a 4-6-3 double play. He struck out eight batters.
The last Marlin to allow one hit or fewer in a complete game was Edinson Vólquez on June 3, 2017, who threw a no-hitter while honoring his late friends Yordano Ventura and Fernández. The last Marlin other than Sandy Alcantara to record a shutout was left-hander Braxton Garrett on May 24, 2024, in Arizona. Eleven of the past 12 complete games had been thrown by Alcantara.
The only other two batters to reach against Pérez were Ronald Acuña Jr. (via first-inning fielding error) and Matt Olson (fourth-inning walk).
With Pérez at 90 pitches entering the ninth, manager Clayton McCullough elected to stick with his young flamethrower rather than turn to his bullpen. On July 5, McCullough pulled Pérez after 92 pitches and seven perfect frames against the A’s in West Sacramento.
Arguably the best start of Pérez’s young career comes on the heels of him striking out the side on 14 pitches in his debut in relief on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old finished his 2026 season on a high note after compiling a 10.13 ERA over his last five starts. He set career highs for outings (30), starts (29) and innings (159).
Batterymate Joe Mack broke the scoreless deadlock with a solo shot to the upper deck in right-center field in the seventh. The rookie catcher lifted righty Grant Holmes’ first-pitch curveball for his 14th home run of the season, and first since Sept. 9.
Miami added two insurance runs in the eighth on Heriberto Hernández’s RBI single and Griffin Conine’s solo homer.
