MIAMI -- The Marlins acquired Minor League infielder Federico Polanco from the Mets in exchange for right-hander Jordan Yamamoto on Monday. Yamamoto had been designated for assignment on Friday to make room on the 40-man roster for reliever Anthony Bass.

Polanco, who turns 20 in March, has not appeared above Rookie ball. From 2018-19, he slashed .244/.318/.324 with 20 doubles, eight triples and 21 stolen bases in 120 games while playing against competition nearly a year older than him. Between three teams in the Gulf Coast League and Dominican Summer League in ‘19, the 5-foot-10, 155-pound Polanco compiled an .801 OPS in his second season of professional baseball. He has appeared at second base and third base as well as shortstop.

Part of the Christian Yelich trade with the Brewers, Yamamoto opened his MLB career with a 1.59 ERA through six starts in 2019. But since then, he has a 9.00 ERA in 13 outings (12 starts).
