Rockies pay tribute to Boston with 'Sweet Caroline'

DENVER -- The Rockies, joining teams all around baseball, took time to honor Boston and remember those killed and injured Monday in the bombing at the Boston Marathon by playing "Sweet Caroline" -- a Fenway Park staple -- before the eighth inning of the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader -- a 9-8, 10-inning victory over the Mets -- at Coors Field.

By that point, the celebration was shared by only the heartiest of fans who endured temperatures in the 30s, along with light, icy precipitation.

It was a day full of reflection and celebration at Coors.

Because Monday's game was snowed out, all folks in uniform for the first game wore No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson, who broke baseball's color barrier on April 15, 1947. In the second game, the teams went with a scheduled "throwback night." The teams wore their uniforms from April 5, 1993 -- the first game in Rockies history, a 3-0 loss to the Mets at Shea Stadium. The Rockies wore their road uniform design from that day and the Mets wore a vintage home uniform.
