MLB announces umpires for the 2011 World Series
Jerry Layne Will Serve as Crew Chief for the 107th Fall Classic
Layne, a 23-year Major League Umpire, will lead a crew that includes fellow regular season crew chief Gary Cederstrom along with veteran Umpires Ted Barrett, Greg Gibson, Ron Kulpa and Alfonso Marquez.
This marks the second career World Series assignment for Layne, who worked the 2005 Fall Classic between the Chicago White Sox and the Houston Astros, and his first as the crew chief of the World Series. It is his 13th career Postseason assignment overall. This is also the second World Series assignment for Barrett, Cederstrom and Marquez and it is the first Fall Classic for Gibson and Kulpa.
Each of the six World Series umpires was assigned to a 2011 Division Series. The rotation for the 2011 World Series, which will be covered by FOX Sports and ESPN Radio, follows:
