A.J. Pollock of the Arizona Diamondbacks named National League Player of the Week

Outfielder A.J. Pollock of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been named National League Player of the Week for August 17-23. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Pollock led the Majors with 14 hits last week and paced the NL with a .483 batting average (14-for-29). His eight runs scored and 22 total bases were both tied for the League's top mark, while his four stolen bases ranked second and his .516 on-base percentage ranked fifth. The 27-year-old posted four multi-hit games last week and reached base safely in each of his six games. On Saturday, Pollock went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base en route to an 11-7 win at Cincinnati. The three-hit performance marked the Notre Dame product's 43rd multi-hit contest of the 2015 campaign, which is tied for second-most in the NL. The three-hit game came on the heels of back-to-back four-hit efforts for the Connecticut native, who went 4-for-5 in both Friday's 6-3 victory and Thursday's 5-4 win over the Reds at Great American Ball Park. His two-RBI single was the difference in Thursday's tilt, giving him six game-winning RBI this year. The right-handed-hitting slugger, who was selected by Arizona in the first round of the 2009 MLB Draft, has already set career highs in hits, runs, home runs and RBI this season. His 88 runs scored currently lead the NL, while his 150 hits rank second. This is Pollock's third career Player of the Week honor (also: May 12-18, 2014 and May 26-June 1, 2014).

Other noteworthy performances last week included Chicago's Kris Bryant (.391, 8 R, 9 H, 3 HR, 8 RBI, .957 SLG, .462 OBP) and Dexter Fowler (.478, 7 R, 11 H, 2 HR, .913 SLG, .571 OBP); New York's Yoenis Cespedes (.348, 5 R, 8 H, 3 HR, 8 RBI, .783, .423); Milwaukee's Khris Davis (.273, 7 R, 4 HR, 8 RBI, .818 SLG); Pittsburgh's Starling Marte (.375, 8 R, 12 H, 2 HR, .656 SLG, .394 OBP); and Miami's Dee Gordon (.407, 6 R, 11 H, .593 SLG, .500 OBP).

In recognition of his National League Player of the Week Award, A.J. Pollock will be awarded a watch courtesy of Game Time, the leader in licensed sports watches, available at MLB.com.
