Drew Hutchison Interview

Young pitcher Drew Hutchison made his Major League debut last April with the Toronto Blue Jays. But after 11 successful starts, Hutchison unfortunately injured his elbow, requiring him to undergo Tommy John surgery. It’s been a long road, but he cheerfully admitted that his recovery is going well. While rehabbing, Hutchison spoke to me about the personal side behind the Blue Jays pitcher.

Hutchison told me that he has been anxiously waiting to get back on the mound. “I have had a lot of free time so I have just been watching a lot of movies and going on Netflix to pass the time,” he said. “The biggest challenge for me has been being unable to compete and do what I love to do and being away from the team.”

When not watching movies, however, Hutchison is listening to music. While he admitted he loves listening to all types of genres, country is his favorite. “My three favorite artists right now are Luke Bryan, Brantley Gilbert and Kendrick Lamar.”

Hutchison said he is just a regular guy who loves baseball, admitting that he doesn’t have any superstitions and adding that his idea of a perfect date is pretty simple: just a dinner and a movie. He also offered some tips for future ball players, stating that his personal secret to breaking his gloves in is “nothing too crazy - I just dump them into the hot tub to help shape it and then it’s good to go!”

That seems like a simple way to break in a glove! What do you do to break in yours? Comment below.
