The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed outfielder Michael Saunders to a minor league contract, which includes an invitation to big league camp.
The 2016 American League All-Star split the 2017 season between Philadelphia and Toronto, where he hit a combined .202 (44-for-218) with nine doubles, two triples, six home runs and 21 RBI in 73 games. In 2016 while spending the entire season with the Blue Jays, Saunders established career-highs in games (140), doubles (32), home runs (24) and walks (59).
Saunders has a career average of .232 with 123 doubles, 19 triples, 81 home runs and 263 RBI in 775 games in the big leagues between Seattle (2009-14), Toronto (2015-16), Philadelphia (2017) and Toronto (2017).
Saunders will wear uniform #12.
