Jake Thomas Mangum...Is a 2015 graduate of Jackson Preparatory (Miss.) School, the same school attended by prospect Konnor Griffin...Attended Mississippi State University (2016-19), where he finished his college career ranked first in Southeastern Conference history and fourth in NCAA history with 383 hits...His father, John, played nine seasons (1990-98) in the National Football League with Chicago (final game was the first regular-season game at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium, located across the street from George M. Steinbrenner Field, where Jake made his MLB debut)...His uncle, Kris, won a national championship with the University of Alabama's football team in 1992 and played in the NFL for 10 years w/Carolina (1997-2006)...His grandfather, John Sr., played two seasons (1966-67) with the American Football League's Boston Patriots...Is friends with NFL quarterback Gardner Minshew... Minshew was drafted by Jacksonville on the same day that Jake broke the SEC's all-time hit record (4/27/19)...Was signed by Mets scout Jet Butler.

Did not appear in a Minor League game before being recalled by Tampa Bay on 3/29...Made his Major League debut on 3/30 vs. Colorado...Went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored on 3/31 vs. Pittsburgh (his first hit was a third-inning single off Carmen Mlodzinski)...Joined Brooklyn's Casey Stengel (9/17/1912 vs. Pittsburgh) as the only Major Leaguers in the Modern Era (since 1901) to record at least four hits and two stolen bases in a game within their first two Major League games (Mangum was the only one with an extra-base hit)... Won the International League batting title with a .317 average for Triple-A Durham, 10th best among full-season Minor Leaguers…became the first Bull to claim a batting crown since Jake Cronenworth (.334) in 2019...Appeared in 104 games for Durham, including 100 starts between center field (55), left field (24), right field (17) and designated hitter (four)…had two stints on the injured list with left quad strains: April 8-28 and May 28–June 13...Was one of five players in all of Triple-A to record 30 2B and 20 SB...Ranked among Rays Minor Leaguers in doubles (T2nd), average (third) and hits (fourth). 

2023

Hit .298/.346/.425 (141-for-473) with 29 2B, eight 3B, five HR, 52 RBI and 16 SB in 119 games for Triple-A Jacksonville…ranked among Miami farmhands in triples (T1st), doubles (second), hits (third), total bases (fourth, 201) and XBH (seventh, 42)…the eight triples were tied for the most in the International League…was acquired from the Marlins on Dec. 18.

2022

Jake Mangum entered the 2022 season as the Mets’ No. 22 prospect, per MLBPipeline... Acquired by Miami as the “Player To Be Named Later” in the trade that sent RHPs Jeff Brigham and Elieser Hernandez to the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Franklin Sanchez on Nov. 18....Earned MiLB.com Organizational All-Star honors for the second consecutive season, slashing .306/.363/.441 in 72 games between Triple-A Syracuse, Double-A Binghamton, and the FCL Mets....Missed time from June 15 to Aug. 16 with a back injury....In his first stint with Triple-A, Mangum went 46x138 (.333) with an .836 OPS in 33 games. Hit 11 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, and 21 RBI with 7 stolen bases....The switch-hitter hit .342 (26x76) vs. left-handed pitching as a right-handed batter and .288 (59x205) vs. right-handed pitching as a left-handed batter....Hit safely in 19 of 23 games played in the month of May, posting a .363 avg. and .893 OPS that earned him the promotion to Syracuse on May 24. Recorded two multi-hit efforts in his first three games....Made 56 starts in center field, nine starts in left field, three starts in right field and four starts at designated hitter.

2021

Combined to hit .285 (96-337) in 84 games between Brooklyn (A+) and Binghamton (AA), being named a MiLB.com organizational All-Star...Earned AA-Northeast Player of the Week (August 8) honors while with Binghamton...His .294 average with the Rumble Ponies ranked tied for fourth in the league.

2020

Did not play due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019

Played his first professional season with Brooklyn (A)...Started an eighth-inning rally in game three of the New York-Penn League Championship Series to help the Cyclones win their first title.
