The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players from the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Amateur Scouting.
17th Round: Mason Martin, OF, 6-0/201, Southridge (WA) High School, Assigned to GCL Pirates - Hit .507 with nine doubles, five home runs, 30 RBI, 35 runs scored and 10 stolen bases as a senior in 2017 at Southridge High School ... Earned Mid-Columbia Conference First-Team honors as an outfielder in 2017 ... Was rated 312th overall in the Draft by Baseball America and the fifth-best Draft prospect in the state of Washington ... Was also tabbed by Baseball America as the 19th ranked first baseman in the Draft.
27th Round: David Lee, RHP, 6-4/195, University of Florida, Assigned to GCL Pirates - Made two appearances as a junior in his first season with the 2017 College World Series champion University of Florida Gators ... Also played for Santa Fe College and Florida International University during his collegiate career ... Went 6-2 with a 4.00 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched at Santa Fe and 2-2 with a 4.42 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 36.2 innings at FIU ... Was also selected in the 38th round of the 2016 Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
The Pirates have now signed 37 of their 42 selections from the 2017 Draft.
