**COACHING CAREER** Greg Maddux is in his second season with the Rangers as Special Assistant to the General Manager after being hired on Nov. 29, 2011. The four-time Cy Young Award winner is in uniform during spring training as an extra instructor for both the major and minor league staffs, along with visiting the club's farm affiliates during the regular season. The younger brother of current Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux, Greg participates in the Fall Instructional League and in any minicamps the club conducts. Greg was selected as pitching coach for Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic taking place this spring. Prior to joining the Rangers, Maddux spent the 2010-11 seasons in a similar role with the Chicago Cubs. He officially retired and ended his playing career at the 2008 Baseball Winter Meetings in his hometown of Las Vegas. He finished his career with a 355-227 record and a 3.16 ERA in 744 games/740 starts for Chicago-NL (1986-92, 2004-06), Atlanta (1993-2003), Los Angeles (2006, 2008), and San Diego (2007-08). He won four Cy Young Awards in his career, all in consecutive years from 1992-95, becoming the first pitcher in baseball history to win the award in four straight seasons (also Randy Johnson, 1999-2002). Maddux joins Roger Clemens (7), Johnson (5), and Steve Carlton (4) as the only pitchers in baseball history with at least four career Cy Young Awards. His 355 wins rank eighth in major league history. Born in San Angelo, Texas, Maddux was an eight-time All-Star and won a major league-record 18 Gold Glove Awards. He led the National League in ERA on four occasions, finishing second in that category in three other seasons. He also led the senior circuit in victories on three occasions. Maddux had 19 different seasons with 30-or-more starts, the second-most in baseball history behind only Hall of Famer Don Sutton (20). He recorded at least 15 wins in a major league-record 18 different seasons. He went 19-2 (.905) in the regular season with Atlanta in 1995, the highest single-season winning percentage ever by a pitcher with at least 20 decisions. Atlanta went on to win its lone World Series title that year. Maddux and his wife, Kathy, have a daughter, Amanda, and a son, Chase. Maddux is scheduled to appear on the ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame in late 2013, as he would be a candidate for induction in the Class of 2014.

2007

FOR THE RECORDS: Earned his 13th victory of 2007 on 9/18 vs. PIT, recording his 20th consecutive 13-win season...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 20 straight seasons with 13 or more wins are a Major League record, passing Cy Young who accomplished the feat in 19 consecutive seasons, 1891-1909...collected his 10th win of the season 8/24 at PHI, marking his 20th straight season with at least 10 wins...the 20 consecutive campaigns with 10 or more wins set a Major League record, surpassing Cy Young's mark from 1891-1909 (Elias Sports Bureau)...the 20 seasons with at least 10 wins are also tied with Nolan Ryan for the second-most 10-win seasons all-time, trailing Don Sutton who recorded at least 10 wins in 21 seasons during his career.

NO WALKING: Did not walk a batter for 59.2 consecutive innings, 7/28-9/18...walked Roy Oswalt in the second inning on 7/28 in Houston and then faced 244 batters without a walk until he issued a free pass to Jason Bay of the Pirates in the bottom of the third inning, 9/18 at PETCO PARK...the 244 batters faced without a walk was the second longest such streak of his career, as he went 289 batters without a walk from 6/20- 8/12/01 (Elias Sports Bureau)...the 59.2 frames was the second-longest walkless streak of his career, trailing his National League record 72.1 consecutive innings without a walk in 2001...the 59.2 innings are also the second-most in Padres history behind Randy Jones' club-record 68.0 walkless frames in 1976.

AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER: Went 3-1 with a 2.37 ERA (10 ER/38.0 IP) in six August starts... San Diego was 5-1 in those outings...struck out 21 batters and walked none in the month...one of only two Major Leaguers in 2007 to pitch 30.0 or more innings in a month without issuing a base on balls, joining Cleveland's Paul Byrd who went 40.0 innings in May without allowing walk...won a season-high five straight decisions 8/14-9/8, posting a 1.89 ERA (8 ER/38.0 IP) over six starts during that span...San Diego won all six of those starts...finished the season with a 7-2 record in his last 10 starts (Padres were 8-2)...allowed three runs or less in eight of those 10 starts and one run or fewer on four occasions.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Recorded his 109th career complete game 5/14 vs. CIN...allowed one run on five hits and struck out five batters in the Padres 7-1 win...the only San Diego hurler to notch a complete game in 2007...marked his first complete game since 9/27/05 for the Cubs vs. the Pirates.

2006
