Full name: Christopher Trotman Nixon...Trot and his wife Kathryn have 2 sons, Chase (9/11/01) and Luke (10/1/04)...Served as spokesman for Red Sox Kid Nation presented by Hood and was a spokesman for the annual Red Cross Blood Drive held annually at Fenway Park...Graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC, also the alma mater of legendary journalist David Brinkley and NFL quarterback greats Sonny Jurgensen and Roman Gabriel...Led the Wildcats to a 26-1 record and the 4-A State Championship as a senior, batting .519 (41-79) with 12 homers and 56 RBI while going 12-0 with a 0.40 ERA as a pitcher...Was named 1993 High School Player of the Year by Baseball America...Signed a letter of intent to play quarterback at North Carolina State, but instead signed with the Sox...Trot's father, Dr. William Nixon, caught Hall of Famer Jim "Catfish" Hunter in high school.

Trot ended his Red Sox career with 133 home runs and a .478 slugging %, which rank 17th and 12th, respectively, in the 106-year history of the Boston Red Sox organization. Only Dwight Evans (2,026G) has appeared in more games for the Red Sox in right field than Nixon's 869 since 1950. ROAD, SWEET ROAD: A lifetime .290 hitter at Fenway and a .270 hitter on the road in all or part of 8 big league seasons into 2005, Nixon batted .321 (69-for-215) with 8 long balls and 37 driven in on the road, while managing to hit just .223 (43-for-193) with 5 homers and 30 RBI at Fenway Park.

YANKEE KILLER: 4 of his 13 homers and 23 of his 67 RBI came in his 19 games against the Yankees...had no more than 2 homers and 7 RBI against any other opponent.

WHY SO DEFENSIVE?: Was charged with one error 249 total chances in 124 games in right field...had 8 outfield assists, 2nd to Manny Ramirez (a league-high 17) on the club.

HEROICS: Trot's 8th career grand slam capped a 5-run 7th and gave the Red Sox a 6-3 win May 14 at Seattle...the game-winning blow came off J.J. Putz...delivered a walk-off RBI single off Danys Baez with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, lifting the Red Sox to a 7-6 win over Tampa Bay on August 30.

Was limited to just 48 games because of a slight disk herniation in his back, then a strained left quadriceps...still, batted .315 with 9 doubles, 6 home runs and 23 RBI...opened the season on the disabled list with the aggravated back as well as the strained quadriceps suffered during rehab, missing 63 games before being reinstated June 16...completed a rehab assignment with Single-A Sarasota (one game) and Triple-A Pawtucket (5 games) before returning to the Sox June 16 and homering in his 2nd at-bat in Colorado, belting a 4th-inning 1-1 offering from Jason Jennings into the right field seats...went on to hit .273 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 29 games before the quad forced him back to the D.L...missed 39 games before returning to appear solely as a pinch hitter for 4 games, going 0-for-4...in his 15 games (12 starts), Trot hit .435 (20-for-46) with 8 multi-hit efforts, 5 doubles, 3 homers and 10 RBI to close out the regular season...batted .400 (20-for-50) overall after his 2nd stint on the D.L.

In his 5th full season, topped his previous career bests with a .306 average and 28 homers, while knocking in 87, the 3rd season in a row he's hit at least 24 homers and knocked in at least 84...had 3 homers and 25 RBI in 46 games through May but slammed 25 long balls and knocked in 62 in 88 games the rest of the way, including 17 homers and 41 RBI in 48 games in June and July...was one of 3 Red Sox (with Manny Ramirez and Bill Mueller) but only 5 players in the A.L. (with Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Delgado) to rank among the top 10 in the A.L. in both on-base percentage (.396) and slugging (.578)...his .974 OPS (on-base + slugging) ranked 4th in the A.L. behind only Delgado, Ramirez and Rodriguez...appeared in only 5 of the last 18 regular season games due to a strained left calf.
