First name is pronounced: hoh-HAHN-say...Originally agreed to a professional deal with the Brewers in 2015, but that contract was voided... three years later and despite Torres' advanced age for an international prospect, the Astros signed Torres at the age of 22 out of the Dominican Republic...signed by Astros scout Roman Ocumarez...Houston has had success signing Dominican prospects in their 20's, including LHP Framber Valdez, who was 21 when the Astros signed him, and RHP Enoli Paredes, who was 20 at his signing...Was one of 13 Dominican players invited to Astros Spring Training, including eight pitchers...Received his first invite to Major League Spring Training this offseason...is signed to a minor league contract for the 2021 season.

2020

Began his 2020 season in minor league camp... added to the club's Player Pool for the season, pitched at Summer Camp and spent the remainder of the year at the club's alternate training site.

2019

Had one of the best minor league seasons among all Astros prospects in 2019, combining to go 12-0 with a 1.71 ERA (18ER/94.2IP) in 24 games (10 starts) at two Class A levels...while pitching for Advanced A Fayetteville, earned Carolina Pitcher of the Week honors (July 22-28) after tossing a 7.0-inning complete game shutout on July 24 vs. Lynchburg, in which he allowed one hit, one walk and fanned eight...that shutout performance was part of an 18.0-innings scoreless streak, a franchise record for the Woodpeckers.

2018

Debuted for the Dominican Summer League Astros in 2018, making 13 appearances (eight starts) and posting a 2.20 ERA (10ER/41IP) with 48 strikeouts in 41.0 innings pitched.
