2023 MiLB SEASON: Began season on the injured list...Had left hamate bone surgery on 3/28…Began rehab assignment with Bradenton on 5/2 and went 7-for-16 (.438) with four doubles and four RBI in four games…Returned from rehab and was reinstated from the IL at Indianapolis on 5/9…Made his first start at shortstop on 5/20 vs. Iowa (Game 1)…Hit safely in seven straight games from 5/28 to 6/4 (9-for-25, .360)… Swiped four stolen bases on 6/21 vs. Columbus (game 1); the first Indy player with four stolen bases in a game since Eury Perez on June 29, 2017…Made his first career appearance at first base on 6/25 vs. Columbus…Hit .315 (23-for-73) with nine extra-base hits, 11 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .907 OPS in 20 games with Indy during the month of July…Was hitting .309 (46-for-149) with 14 doubles, 24 RBI and a .412 OBP in 41 Minor League games overall when he was recalled by the Pirates on 6/28… Had a 24-game on-base streak while playing with Indianapolis from 6/15 thru 9/2, going 27-for-81 (.333) with eight doubles, two triples, one home run, nine RBI and a .979 OPS.

Spent entire season with Double-A Altoona and was recognized by the Pirates organization as the Bill Mazeroski Defender-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season... Finished the season 2nd in the Eastern League in average, second in walks, third in OBP, seventh in hits and tied for ninth in stolen bases...Finished the season sixth among Pirates minor leaguers in hits, second in walks and tied for sixth in stolen bases... Started at shortstop on 4/22 vs. New Hampshire, just his 24th appearance there as a pro...Made his first start in the outfield as a professional on 5/15 vs Somerset, playing CF...Had previously played 15 games as a freshman at University of Houston in right field... Drew nine walks in six games at New Hampshire (6/21-26) and had a .410 OBP in his last 23 games (6/21 - 7/17) before the All-Star Break... Tripled three times in Altoona's series with Akron from 8/2-8/7, the first Curve batter with three triples in a series since Austin Meadows in 2016...Over his last 54 games from 6/21 to 8/30, recorded a.402 OBP which raised his season average from .359 to .374... Placed on 7-Day IL on 8/30 with a left knee injury.

Spent entire season with High-A Greensboro and was recognized by the Pirates organization as the Bill Mazeroski Defender-of-the-Year...Was also named the Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award winner for third basemen...Led all qualifying third basemen at the minor league level with a .961 fielding percentage, games played (102), assists (163), putouts (81), total chances (254) and innings played (897.0)...Led the High-A East League in hits and doubles, tied for the league lead in total bases (202), ranked second in batting average, third in RBI, fourth in OBP, tied for sixth in extra base hits (44), sixth in stolen bases, seventh in OPS and 10th in slugging...Led all third basemen in MiLB with 75 RBI at that position (the next closest third baseman had 66 RBI) while also pacing all players at that position in the minors in total bases (196)... Was named as the third baseman on the High-A East League’s post-season All-Star team...Hit safely in a High-A East League season-high 20 straight games from 7/24 to 8/18...Hit .393 (48-for-122) with runners in scoring position and .371 (76-for-205) with runners on base (his 48 hits with RISP were tied for the second-most in all of MiLB while his 76 hits with runners on base were tied for the second-most in MiLB)...Ranked third among Pirates minor leaguers with at least 300 plate appearances in batting average, second in RBI and third in stolen bases...Made 102 starts at third base and five starts at shortstop.
