Resides in Manchester, NH during the off-season...Earned both Big East Conference Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman at Boston College in 2002, marking the first time the same player won both honors in the same season -- finished 9-3 with a 2.76 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 17 games to earn All-Big East Conference honors...led the conference with a 2.76 ERA...named to Baseball America's Freshman All-American squad...Named the top prospect in the New England Collegiate League during the summer of 2002 by Baseball America -- posted a 3-2 record, 1.55 ERA and 72 strikeouts in nine outings for Concord...Compiled an 8-2 record, 2.71 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 13 outings as a sophomore at Boston College in 2003 to earn All-Big East Conference honors...Posted a 3-3 record, 2.12 ERA and 56 strikeouts in nine games for Chatham in the Cape Cod League during the summer of 2003 -- named the ninth-best prospect in the league by Baseball America...Shared Big East Conference Pitcher of the Year honors and he was tabbed an All-Big East Conference selection as a junior at Boston College in 2004 -- posted a 6-4 record, 3.02 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 15 outings...led the conference with 107 strikeouts...Was one of 24 players to represent the United States at the CONCEBE Regional Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Phoenix in 2005 -- earned the win in the opening game versus Guatemala as he fanned nine batters in five shutout innings...Participated in the Tigers Winter Caravan.
2008
Finished fifth in the International League with a 3.50 ERA for Triple A Toledo before seeing his first major league action with the Tigers late in the 2008 season...Won five straight starts for the Mud Hens April 17-May 8, compiling a 1.76 ERA (30.2IP/6ER)...Fifth in the International League with 33 strikeouts during May -- posted a 2-2 record and 3.00 ERA (36.0IP/12ER) in six starts during the month...Tossed three complete games over a four-start stretch July 7-24 -- tied for the league lead with three complete games...Fired a three-hit shutout on July 12 at Indianapolis, fanning four batters in a rain-shortened, five-inning game -- tied for fourth in the league with the one shutout...Tabbed the International League Pitcher of the Week for July 7-13 after winning both of his starts and allowing an unearned run in 14.0 innings pitched...Tied for third in the International League with four wins during July -- finished 4-2 with a 3.62 ERA (37.1IP/15ER) in six starts during the month...Had his contract purchased from Toledo by the Tigers on August 26 -- made his major league debut that night, taking the loss in the start against the Indians after allowing six runs (two earned) in 2.2 innings pitched...Optioned to Toledo by the Tigers on August 27 -- he did not pitch with the Mud Hens again before being recalled by the Tigers on September 2...Earned his first major league win on September 7 at Minnesota -- allowed four runs (three earned) in five innings...Established a career high with 2.2 innings of relief on September 20 at Cleveland.

Spent the majority of the season at Double-A Springfield while receiving a spot start at Memphis (AAA)...His 10 wins ranked tied for fourth among Cardinals minor league hurlers...Totaled 113 strikeouts, which ranked 5th in the Texas League. Averaged 8.43 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched, also 5th best in the league...Recorded season high nine-strikeout games on 4/23 vs. Tulas and 8/5 vs. Arkansas. Struck out five-or-more batters in 13 of his 24 starts on the season...Limited Double-A opponents to a .227 batting average with runners in scoring position and a .207 BA w/RISP and 2 outs...Won three straight starts from 6/11-23, allowing seven earned runs in 19.2 innings (3.20 ERA) with 18 Ks over this span. Tossed 7.0 shutout innings on 6/16 vs. Tulsa while allowing two hits and fanning eight in the 2-0 Springfield win...Pitched 4.0 innings and took the loss by allowing three runs on five hits in a spot start for Memphis on 7/21 at Iowa, a 3-1 loss in the second game of a doubleheader...A pulled muscle in his right biceps sent him to the disabled list on 8/12 and eventually ended his season.
2005
Promoted to Double-A after winning seven of his 10 starts at Palm Beach (7-1) and posting a 2.63 ERA...combined for 10 wins, which ranked T6th in the Cards minor league system...totaled 115 strikeouts, 6th-most among STL minor league hurlers...pitched in the Futures Game as part of MLB All- Star festivities in Detroit...was 2-1 with a 3.34 ERA in six July starts at Springfield (AA)...went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in six starts for Surprise of the Arizona Fall League...was one of 24 players to represent the U.S. at the CONCEBE Regional Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Phoenix...earned the win in the opening game vs. Guatemala by tossing 5.0 shutout innings while allowing one hit and fanning nine.

The Cardinals top draft pick made nine starts at Peoria (A) after signing on 6/30...limited opponents to a .218 batting average while posting a 1-1 record and 2.58 ERA.
