Dauri Moreta #93

Dauri Moretta (pronounced DOW-ree mo-RETTA)... Adopted the nickname "Big Bank" and "Money Moreta" during the 2023 season...When he comes out of a game, he brings both hands parallel to his face and rubs his thumb, index finger and middle finger together with his non-glove hand...The gesture, of course, is the universal sign for “money.”... Enjoys playing chess...He learned how to play in grade school, but really started taking it seriously when playing against Joey Votto while they were teammates with the Reds...He says he has never beat Joey... His favorite players growing up were Pedro Martinez and Justin Verlander.

2024

Was placed on the 60-day injured list on 3/16...Had UCL reconstruction surgery on his right elbow on 3/19 in Dallas, Texas (surgery performed by Dr. Keith Meister) and missed the entire season.

2023

Made season debut on Opening Day at Cincinnati and stranded his inherited runner while working 1.0 scoreless inning (0h/2bb/3so)…Tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in the home opener on 4/7 vs. Chicago (AL) and picked up his first Major League win.…Celebrated his 27th birthday on 4/15 at St. Louis by working a scoreless 10th inning to earn his second career save (also 7/14/22 at NYY)…Retired all six Colorado batters he faced on 5/10…Threw 10 pitches (all strikes) while whiffing all three batters he faced on 5/17 at Detroit…Made eight straight scoreless appearances (10.2ip) from 4/30 thru 5/20…Did not allow an earned run over 16 consecutive appearances (18.0ip) from 4/30 thru 6/7…Was scored upon once in his first nine games during the month of July (9.0ip/1er) before giving up two runs in 1.1ip on 7/25 at SD…Was placed on the 15-day injured list on 8/4 with low back inflammation…Began a rehab assignment with Indianapolis on 8/18 and struck out two of the three batters he faced that night at St. Paul…Returned from rehab and was reinstated on 8/20; tossed a scoreless inning at Minnesota that night…Was optioned to Indianapolis on 8/23…Was recalled on 9/22... Retired all eight batters he faced in 2.2 innings of work on 9/23 at Cincinnati…Struck out three of the five batters he faced on 9/26 at Philadelphia and retired all four he faced on 9/28 at Philadelphia…Whiffed all three batters he faced and picked up the win in the final game of the season on 10/1 vs. Miami…Did not allow a hit in 22 opposing at bats and had 10 strikeouts after his recall on 9/22 (7.0ip).

2022

Was a member of a MLB Opening Day roster for the first time in his career…Had five separate stints with Cincinnati…Tossed more than 1.0 inning 10 times with the Reds, including each of his last five outings…Pitched on consecutive days on seven different occasions…Made 14 appearances (one start) before being optioned to Triple-A Louisville on 5/12…Made his only professional start in game two of the 5/7 doubleheader vs. Pittsburgh (0.1ip/2h/2r)… Worked the eighth inning of the game on 5/8 to become the first Reds pitcher to appear the day after a start since 6/24- 25, 1989 when Tim Birtsas threw 2.1 innings in a start and then pitched 3.0 innings of relief the next day…Missed the last game prior to the All-Star break while on the injured list with an illness…Had his career-high scoreless streak of 13.2 innings come to an end on 9/22 vs. Milwaukee after allowing a two-run home run to Kolten Wong…Was optioned to Triple-A on 9/24 for the remainder of the season.

2021

Was the Reds' Minor League Pitcher of the Year and an MiLB.com Organization All-Star...Was named to the Baseball America Minor League All-Star second team...Was the seventh of nine Reds players to make Major League debuts in 2021 (2B Jonathan India, RHP Ryan Hendrix, RHP Vladimir Gutierrez, RHP Tony Santillan, IF Alejo Lopez, OF TJ Friedl, LHP Reiver Sanmartin, RHP Riley O'Brien)...Spent most of the season at Class AA Chattanooga and Class AAA Louisville, where in 42 apps he combined to produce a 6-0 record with eight saves and a 1.02 ERA (.164baa, 0.75whip)...Was promoted from Louisville on 9/22, when IF Mike Moustakas went on the 10-day Injured List with right foot plantar fasciitis...Made his Major League debut in the 9-2 win on 9/26 vs Wsh...entered the game in the seventh inning, leading 7-1, and threw a hitless inning...first strikeout victim was Lane Thomas, the final out of the inning...Allowed his only run in his final appearance of the season, a 9-2 loss on 10/1 at Pit...inherited three base runners in the eighth inning...on his first pitch allowed Cole Tucker's first career grand slam, extending Pit's lead to 9-1, then retired his next two batters...Began the season at Chattanooga, his first action above Class A, and went 4-0, 1.35 in 18 apps until he was promoted to Louisville on 7/6...for the Lookouts from 5/20-6/25 produced a season-high 11-game scoreless streak (16.1ip, 7h, 3bb, 26k)...At Louisville, didn't allow an earned run in his first 22 apps or 24.2 innings, a streak snapped by a home run allowed in a 6-2 loss on 9/17 at Memphis...During Spring Training posted a 3.00 ERA in five apps for the Reds in "A" games (3ip, 2h, 1er, 1bb, 6k)...was 1 of 18 players invited to early minor league camp...wore #99.
