Eli resides in Redondo Beach, Calif...Pitched in parts of three seasons at Gonzaga University (Wash.) from 2015-17, going 21-5 with a 3.15 ERA (90 ER in 257.1 IP) and 281 strikeouts to just 70 walks...Pitched in eight games for Orleans in the Cape Cod League in 2016...Pitched in eight games (seven starts) for the Mat-Su Miners in the 2015 Alaska Summer League and went 5-0 with a 0.84 ERA (four ER in 42.2 IP) with 47 strikeouts (9.9 K/9)...Graduated from Palos Verdes Peninsula HS (Calif.) in 2015...Pitched for the Yakima Valley Pippins in the West Coast League in 2014, where he was teammates with Mets pitcher Reed Garrett.

Appeared in just seven games for the Cubs after signing a one-year contract with them on Feb. 27...was placed on the Injured List with a right elbow impingement on April 15 and was reinstated on Sept. 19 but did not reappear in a Major League game...Made his Cubs debut vs. the Dodgers on Opening Day, March 18, in the Tokyo Dome and worked 1.1 scoreless frames...All 10 of his runs allowed came in two outings, on March 30 at Arizona (six) and April 14 at San Diego (four), his last outing of the season.

Spent entirety of the 2020 season at the Lake County Alternate Training Site....Added to the 40-man roster on November 20.

2019

Split the 2019 season across three levels, making 18 of 25 starts with Akron...For the year, he went a combined 9-6 with a 3.39 ERA in 26 games (140.2IP, 124H, 53ER, 40BB, 146SO)...He led the system in innings, was second in strikeouts and earned an organizational all-star nod from MLB.com...Prior to the season, Eli was named as having the best change-up in the system (Baseball America)...Started the year in Single-A Lynchburg, was promoted to Akron in May and made a spot start in AAA Columbus on July 16.

2018

Named MiLB.com Organizational All-Star...Earned Pitcher of the Week honors three times, once with Lake County and twice with Lynchburg...For second straight year, named Best Change-up in Cleveland Farm System by Baseball America.

Allowed just four earned runs across 35.0 innings for Mahoning Valley, and finished 2nd on the team with 58 strikeouts (14.91 K-per-9.0IP)...His 1.03 ERA was good for the 3rd-lowest mark in the New York-Penn League (min. 35.0IP).
