Kyle Daniel McGrath…son of James and Melissa McGrath…has two siblings, Kaitlyn and Kolin…attended University of Louisville (KY) where he pitched two scoreless relief outings in the NCAA Regional and two shutout innings in the victory over Kentucky in the title game (2014)…attended Eastern Kentucky University before transferring to Louisville, where he played one season…earned an All-State honorable mention at Butler Traditional High School (KY), including All-Regional and All-District honors…set the single-game state tournament record with 16 strikeouts against Boone County in his senior year at Butler Traditional.
Split the season between San Antonio (AA), El Paso (AAA) and SD, making his MLB debut on 7/30 vs. PIT... Began the season with SA and made 20 relief appearances, going 1-1 with a 2.66 ERA (7 ER, 23.2 IP) with 27 SO to four BB... Received his first call-up to the majors on 7/27 and made his MLB debut on 7/30 vs. PIT, tossing a scoreless seventh inning and striking out two of the three batters he faced... Made four more appearances for SD before being optioned to El Paso on 8/22, where he tossed four scoreless outings in his five total appearances, allowing just one run and limiting the opposition to a .143 average... Recalled to SD on 9/1 and was scoreless in 10 of his 12 appearances form 9/1-10/1, posting a 1.46 ERA (2 ER, 12.1 IP)... On the season for SD he posted a 2.84 ERA (6 ER, 19.0 IP) in 17 relief appearances and limited opposing hitters to a .209 average... Posted a 3.68 ERA (3 ER, 7.1 IP) at Petco Park as opposed to a 2.31 ERA (3 ER, 11.2 IP) on the road... Posted a 1.86 ERA (2 ER, 9.2 IP) against NL West opponents... Left-handed hitters hit just .167 (4-for-24) while right-handers hit .233 (10-for-43).
