Appeared in 45 games for SF at the MLB level, with most of his games coming from May-July...Hit .213 with 14 runs, five doubles, five home runs and 25 RBI in the 45 games...Matos’ 17 RBI in his first six games of the year with a plate appearance were the most by a Giant in his first six games of a season in team history...The six-game span with 17 RBI was the best by a Giant since OF Hunter Pence had 19 RBI in a six-game run from Sept. 10-15, 2013...Matos had 11 RBI in a two-game span from May 17-18, which tied for the most by a player in a two-game span at age 22 or younger (since RBI became official in 1920), with Johnny Bench (July 25-26, 1970), Jim Tabor (July 4, 1939) and Joe DiMaggio (July 5-9, 1937)...Became the youngest player in MLB history with five or more RBI in back-to-back games, and the fourth player in Giants history to accomplish the feat, joining Jack Clark (1982), Don Mueller (1951); and Hall of Famer Bill Terry (1932)...Named NL Player of the Week for the week ending May 20 after going 10-for-26 (.385) with two homers, 16 RBI, three doubles, three runs scored and a .731 slugging pct. in six games...Led the Majors in RBI during this stretch, tied for NL lead in extra-base hits (five) and total bases (19); tied for third in hits (10), ranked fourth in slugging pct., tied for eighth in batting avg. and ninth in OPS (1.116)...Was the first Giant to win the award since Brandon Belt in 2018...Won PCL Player of the Week on June 17 after batting .464 with six doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI...Spent another month with SF from June 22-July 24, batting .208 (11-for-53) with two homers (19 games)...In 80 Triple-A games, Matos batted .256 with 22 doubles, 14 home runs, 53 RBI and a .779 OPS.

Became the first player since Brooklyn’s Jim Gilliam in 1953 to score 10 or more runs in their first seven career games without hitting a home run...Scored 11 runs through his first 10 career games, matching Willie McCovey for the most in franchise history through first 10 games...Hit his first career triple on July 5 vs. Seattle to become the youngest Giant (21 years and 158 days old) to triple since Matt Williams in 1987 (21 years and 148 days old).

2022

Played a majority of the season with High-A Eugene as a 20-year old, appearing in 91 games while slashing .211/.275/.344 with 14 doubles, 11 homers and 11 steals...Missed roughly a month from May 4-June 6 when he was sidelined with a quad injury...played in two rehab games with the ACL Giants Black in the Complex League before returning to Eugene...Over his final 30 games at Eugene, Matos slashed .275/.309/.458 with half of his doubles (seven) and five of his 11 homers on the season...In Eugene’s run to its second straight Northwest League championship, Matos went 5-for-14 with two doubles and five RBI in three games vs. Vancouver...Suited up for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League following the regular season...got off to a hot start with the Scorpions, homering twice and driving in nine runs in his first three games of AFL play...Finished his time in the AFL hitting .241 with three doubles, one triple, two homers, 13 RBI and one steal with a .662 OPS...Named the Arizona Fall League’s Defensive Player of the Year following his stint there.

2021

Slashed .313/.358/.494 with an .852 OPS in 109 games for Low-A San Jose. Matos had 35 doubles and 15 homers, picking up where he left off in 2019 after no season in 2020...Led all Low-A batters in RBI (86), doubles (35), hits (141), total bases (223) and extra-base hits (51) and ranked second in runs (84) and seventh in batting average (.313)...Was tabbed as the Cal League MVP at the end of the season after playing the entire year as a 19-year-old...He was also named to the 2021 Cal League Post-Season All-Star team.
