Matthew Edward Krook…is married, Meghann, and has a daughter...graduated from St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) where he was named as a first-team All-American and first-team all-region by Perfect Game, while also earning first-team all-league honors as a senior…was selected by Miami as a competitive balance pick (35th selection) but did not sign and attended the University of Oregon…was a Louisville Slugger first-team Freshman All-America selection after recording a 1.79 ERA and striking out 60 in 45.1 innings…missed the entire 2015 season after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery (Tommy John).

2025

Began the season at Triple-A Las Vegas, had a 5.40 ERA in three games with the A's in May and then finished the season with Triple-A Columbus in the Cleveland organization following a May 29 waiver claim…combined to go 5-1 with a save, a 3.19 ERA and .644 opponents OPS in 42 relief appearances in the minors...His stint with the A's marked his third consecutive season with an appearance in the Majors (four games with the Yankees in 2023, one with the Orioles in 2024)...Struck out three in 3.1 innings and walked just one but allowed a .385 opponents batting average...His 42 games pitched with Las Vegas (12 games) and Columbus (30 games) were his most in his nine seasons in the Minors as he was primarily a starter in his first six seasons...Held the opposition to a .192 batting average at Triple-A but issued 32 walks in 48 innings (6.00 per nine innings) and had five hit by pitches for a .338 opponents on-base percentage...Surrendered just three home runs (0.56 per nine innings) and struck out 61 (11.44 per nine innings)...His opponents batting average broke down to .155 (9-for-58) with a .596 OPS against left-handed hitters compared to .211 (23-for-109) with a .669 OPS against right-handers...Opponents hit .235 with runners in scoring position…all three of the home runs he yielded came with runners on base...Allowed 9-of-19 (47.4%) inherited runners to score…first batters faced were 6-for-34 (.176) with six walks, a hit by pitch and a sacrifice hit (.317 on-base percentage)...Held opponents to a .065 batting average with two strikes…yielded a .095 batting average to the two hitter in the order...Tossed at least one inning in 35 of his 42 appearances, including six outings of two innings.

Made his Major League debut with the Yankees on 6/16 and had four stints on the big-league roster. Spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre...Had two stints on the injured list at Triple-A from 4/27-5/13 and 6/22-8/22...Did not have a decision in four appearances for the Yankees last season, posting a 24.75 ERA (11 ER/4.0 IP) with eight hits, one home run, six walks and three strikeouts...Went 1-1 with a 1.32 ERA (5 ER/34.0 IP) with 10 hits, eight total runs, two hit batters, 26 walks and 55 strikeouts in 27 games with the RailRiders...His .090 batting average against was the best in the Minors for pitchers with at least 30.0 innings.

2022

Went 10-7 with a 4.09 ERA (138.2IP, 120H, 71R/63ER, 73BB, 155K, 19HR) in 29 games (22 starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre…among Yankees farmhands, ranked second in strikeouts and innings pitched, third in wins and tied for sixth in starts....Ranked second among all Triple-A pitchers in strikeouts and tied for third in wins....Was named the International League "Pitcher of the Week" for 6/26-7/3 after earning the win and allowing just one hit over 7.2 scoreless innings on 7/1 vs. Buffalo (1BB, 10K).....Following the season, was named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star. 

2021

Combined to go 7-6 with a 2.89 ERA (106.0IP, 66H, 42R/34ER, 60BB, 132K, 5HR) in 24 games (21 starts) with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre…his .175 opponents' BA was the lowest among all Yankees minor leaguers…also ranked among Yankees farmhands in ERA (second), starts (fourth) and strikeouts (fifth)....Began the season with Double-A Somerset, going 1-1 with a 2.15 ERA (29.1IP, 15H, 9R/7ER, 11BB, 44K, 1HR) in seven starts.... Was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 6/15 and went 6-5 with a 3.17 ERA (76.2IP, 51H, 33R/27ER, 49BB, 88K, 4HR) in 17 games (14 starts).

2020

Did not pitch due to the COVID-19 pandemic....Was selected by the Yankees from the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round of the Triple-A phase of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft on 12/10.

2019

Spent the season with Double-A Montgomery, going 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA (50.0IP, 46H, 28R/25ER, 32BB, 52K, 3HR) in 32 games (18 starts). 

2018

Spent his first season in the Rays organization with Double-A Montgomery…pitched to a 3.16 ERA (37-IP, 13-ER) in 17 apps (1 start) through June 17 and a 2.82 ERA (22.1-IP, 7-ER) in 13 apps (4 starts) from July 20 through the end of a season, but a 9.20 ERA (14.2-IP, 15-ER) in 7 apps (1 start) in between… recorded 95 SO in 74 IP for a 11.55 SO/9 IP ratio, and his 10.98 SO/9 IP ratio out of the bullpen ranked 2nd among Southern League relievers…led the league with 20 WP…made 6 apps (4 starts) for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League and was named to the AFL Rising Stars Game…ranked by Baseball America as the No. 30 prospect in the Rays system following the season.

2017

Spent the season with Single-A San Jose, going 4-9 with a 5.12 ERA (91.1IP, 75H, 67R/52ER, 66BB, 105K, 4HR) in 25 games (17 starts)...Was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays from the San Francisco Giants along with INF Christian Arroyo, OF Denard Span and RHP Stephen Woods Jr. in exchange for INF Evan Longoria on 12/20.
