Full name MATTHEW AUGUST LANGWELL...Married, Stephanie... 2004 graduate of A&M Consolidated High School in College Station...Pitched at Sam Houston State in 2005 and at Rice in 2007-08...Did not pitch in 2006 (right elbow reconstruction)...Went 5-1 with a 4.35 ERA during 2008 season on a team that advanced to the College World Series... In 2007 was the lone Rice pitcher to earn selection to both the NCAA Regional and C-USA all-tournament teams...Conference USA leader in ERA (2.35) and opponents' batting average (.206).

2012

Split season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus where he went 4-0 w/a 2.74ERA in 42 relief outings (69.0IP, 59H, 21ER, 27BB, 81K, .230AVG, 0 home runs)...Began the year at Akron and was promoted to Columbus for the remainder of the season on May 10...Did not allow a run over his last 8.1IP (6G) for Akron...Went 2-0 w/a 1.98 ERA in 9 August appearances for the Clippers (13.2IP, 11H, 3R/ER, 20K)...Averaged 10.6K per 9.0IP for the season and had a BB/ SO ratio of 3.00...On the year right-handed batters hit .211 (30-142) off him...Pitched for Carolina in the Puerto Rican Winter League after the season, recording an ERA of 1.13 in 13 games (16.0IP, 14H, 2ER, 12K).

Went a combined 5-1 with a 3.01 ERA in 48 games (68.2IP, 62H, 23ER, 71K, .237AVG) between Akron and Columbus...Promoted to Columbus on 8/1.

Tied for the Carolina League lead in games pitched (45) and led all Carolina League relievers with a SO/9IP (9.32) ratio and baserunners per 9.0IP (9.48) and was 2nd in relief average against (.219).
