Phillip Roger Bickford…born July 10, 1995, in Newbury Park, CA to parents David and Barbara…attended Cal State Fullerton as a freshman before transferring his sophomore season to College of Southern Nevada…was a 2015 Golden Spikes Award semifinalist as he went 9-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 16 starts, striking out 166 batters in 86.2 innings at Southern Nevada…received Russ Ford Award as the most outstanding relief pitcher and the Robert A. McNeese Award as the top prospect in the 2014 Cape Cod League…graduated from Oaks Christian High School (CA) where he led the Lions to the CIF Southern Section Division IV championship.
Started the year with Milwaukee before getting claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on May 3... With the Brewers, the righty pitched in just one contest April 16 against Miami, allowing two earned runs on two hits (one home run) and a walk over one inning... Appeared in five games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (3 ER/5.0 IP) with 12 punchouts and zero issued walks from May 10 to May 21 before making his first appearance as a Dodger on May 23 at San Francisco, where he struck out one over 0.2 innings... Garnered a 4-2 record and 2.50 ERA (14 ER/50.1 IP) in Dodger blue this year, striking out 59 batters while issuing just 18 free passes…produced a 1.03 WHIP and limited the opposition to a .190 average (34-for-179)... Ranked amongst qualified Dodger pitchers in several categories: games (3rd, 56), strikeouts (7th, 59), and innings pitched (10th, 50.1)... Earned his first Major League win July 25 against Colorado, allowing just one hit over a scoreless frame…registered his first big league save earlier in the year June 10 at Pittsburgh, striking out one when facing the minimum... Pitched a career-high 2.0 innings on 6/16 against Philadelphia and 6/21 at San Diego, striking out a combined five hitters in 16 batters faced…also struck out a career-high three batters twice this season (6/21 at SD, 7/4 at WSH) Was even-keeled in home and away games, limiting hitters to a .184 and .212 average respectively…posted great numbers both before and after the All-Star game, giving up seven earned runs on 15 hits before the Midsummer Classic while giving up nine earned runs on 21 hits after the game…pitched in bases-loaded circumstances seven times this season and struck out four hitters during his combined 3.0 scoreless innings…gave up just seven hits with runners in scoring position across 28 games, posting a .140 batting average against.
Spent the majority of the season at the Alternate Training Site in Appleton, WI... Contract was selected by Milwaukee on 9/1.....made his Major League debut that night vs. Detroit (1ip, 4h, 4r, 4er, 2k, 2hbp, 1wp).....his first career strikeout was Grayson Greiner after hitting the first two batters he faced.....was his only outing with the Brewers as he was optioned back on 9/3.
Went 3-0 with a 2.48 ERA and one save in 20 relief appearances at Class-A Carolina...Held opponents to a .197 batting average with 53 strikeouts in 32.2 innings...Earned his first and only professional save on 8/24 vs. Lynchburg...Was named Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August/September after going 2-0 without allowing a run over nine appearances (18ip, 5h, 3bb, 28k)...Did not surrender a run over his last 14 appearances, covering 26.0 innings.....opponents batted .108 (9-for-83, 6bb, 39k)
