Moore hopes to 'cool off' during DL stint

Left-hander (right knee) struggled again on Friday; Martin activated

CHICAGO -- Rangers left-hander Matt Moore won't go so far as to say that the chronic right knee soreness that has plagued him since Spring Training is at the center of his struggles this season, but it certainly hasn't made life any more enjoyable.
Moore was placed on the 10-day disabled list after he labored through 3 2/3 innings on Friday when he allowed five runs (four earned), walked three and struck out five against the White Sox. He will miss his next start and hopes to use his time on the disabled list to work through the issues that have factored into his 7.99 ERA through 10 appearances (nine starts) this season.
"I think at this point, it kind of makes sense to let things cool off," Moore said. "I'm not exactly contributing in a positive fashion. It gives me time to kind of let [the knee] heal up a little bit."
• Rangers put Moore on DL with knee soreness
Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Saturday the best-case scenario would be for Moore to return to the starting rotation once he is eligible to come off the disabled list. On Sunday, Moore said he will likely throw at least two lengthy bullpen sessions while sidelined with the injury that he said flared up again following his start Friday.
Moore said he felt good coming into the spring, which has made his shaky start even more frustrating to deal with. While he has been happy with stretches of how he has pitched this season, the southpaw has fought inconsistency which, in addition to the nagging knee injury, has made for a long couple of months.
"It's not been my most favorite start," Moore said. "But in general, I think it's times like this that you learn a lot from the game, you learn a lot from your mistakes. There's trial and error going on with everything, so you can take advantage of times where you're not being as productive as you like. I think that's really where I am right now."
Martin returns; Jurado sent down
The Rangers activated right-hander Chris Martin from the 10-day disabled list on Sunday and optioned right-hander back to Double-A Frisco, a day after he made his Major League debut on Saturday.
Martin was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 2 with right forearm irritation and last pitched on April 30. He made two Minor League appearances at Double-A Frisco last week, throwing a scoreless inning in each appearance.
"You never want to take that time off [from pitching in the big leagues], but I went down and did what I needed to do," Martin said.
Banister said on Sunday that he was pleased with how Jurado pitched Saturday. The 22-year-old pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and four runs in the third inning -- all with two outs.

"He did exactly what we asked him to do," Banister said. "Give us some innings, give us an opportunity and pitch, and that's exactly what he did."
Robinson starts rehab
The Rangers announced that center fielder began a Minor League rehab assignment on Sunday at Double-A Frisco as the designated hitter. Robinson has been on the disabled list since May 7 with left hip soreness.
