SURPRISE, Ariz. -- On Thursday, the Rangers will host the Reds in Spring Breakout, a first-of-its-kind exhibition featuring the top prospects in each farm system.

“What you're seeing is a glimpse of the future,” said Rangers assistant general manager for player development Ross Fenstermaker. “If the Cincinnati Reds and the Rangers face off in the World Series, you're seeing a potential matchup now that you might see two or three years in the future.

“So I think it should be exciting. The Futures Game is always an exciting event for fans to see the state of the future of the game, but this is concentrated and specific to your organization. So I think it's fun to see those matchups and to see all those players on the field at the same time.”

What is Spring Breakout?
MLB Spring Breakout is a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future: the current stars of Minor League Baseball. The inaugural edition will be held from Thursday through Sunday at Grapefruit and Cactus league stadiums during Spring Training. A series of 16 exhibition games will be played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects, creating a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates our sport’s budding talent.

What time is the Reds-Rangers game?
The Rangers’ prospects will face off with their counterparts from the Reds on Thursday at Surprise Stadium at 6:05 p.m. ET/5:05 p.m. CT/3:05 p.m. MT. It will be a traditional doubleheader, with the big league clubs playing after the Spring Breakout game.

Which position player prospects are expected to play?

REDS
Sal Stewart (Reds' No. 6 prospect) and Cam Collier (Reds' No. 7) are the most prominent Reds prospects expected to take the field on Thursday, after the club announced that Edwin Arroyo (Reds’ No. 3, MLB's No. 67 overall) would not be able to play due to an injury to his left shoulder. RANGERS
The Rangers’ best position-player prospect not named Evan Carter or Wyatt Langford, shortstop Sebastian Walcott (Rangers’ No. 3, No. 71 overall) is leading off for Texas' prospect squad. Other top prospects such as Abimelec Ortiz (No. 12) and Anthony Gutierrez (No. 7) were in the starting lineup as well. The Rangers' full roster can be found here.

Which pitching prospects are expected to play?

REDS
Rhett Lowder (Reds' No. 2), the Reds’ first-round pick from the 2023 MLB Draft out of Wake Forest, as well as right-hander Julian Aguiar (Reds' No. 17) are on the roster and expected to pitch.

RANGERS
The Rangers' top pitching prospect Brock Porter (MLB's No. 88 prospect) gets the start, and other pitchers on the roster such as flamethrowing reliever Emiliano Teodo (Rangers' No. 16) and Marc Church (Rangers' No. 23), who has impressed in big league camp and has a chance to make the Opening Day roster, are also expected to participate.

If you don’t see a top prospect on your favorite team’s roster, it is likely because they fall into one of two categories. They are either still in big league camp and battling for a roster spot, or the player is injured or has an injury concern.
