July 30th, 2020

Arlington, Texas– Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher José Leclerc experienced tightness behind his right shoulder while warming up in the bullpen during Wednesday’s game with Arizona at Globe Life Field.

Leclerc was examined by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister and subsequently underwent an MRI on Thursday.

The diagnosis is that Leclerc sustained a grade 2 tear of the teres major muscle in his right shoulder. No surgery is required, and Leclerc will have platelet-rich plasma therapy later this week.

Leclerc is expected to be shut down from throwing for a minimum of four weeks. He has been placed on the 45-day injured list, effective today.

In addition, the Rangers today announced that first baseman Ronald Guzman has been optioned to the Alternate Training Site.

The Rangers will make corresponding roster moves on the 30-man active roster tomorrow.

Leclerc has a 4.50 ERA (1 ER/2.0 IP) and one save in two appearances this season, Guzman is 1-for-4 in one game in 2020.
