NEW YORK -- The Yankees added a hard-throwing project to their bullpen mix on Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Angel Chivilli from the Rockies in exchange for Minor League first baseman T.J. Rumfield.

Chivilli, 23, will begin working with pitching coach Matt Blake and bullpen coach Preston Claiborne after posting a 6.18 ERA over 90 1/3 big league innings with Colorado over the past two seasons.
“He’s a 23-year-old power arm that’s got a tool package that’s pretty exciting,” general manager Brian Cashman said. “He’s got some flexibility, because there’s an option remaining in his profile. He’s got a year of service, some experience. He’s got a tremendous fastball, changeup and slider. I think there’s a lot to work with there.”
In 73 Major League appearances, Chivilli permitted 107 hits with 71 strikeouts, 33 walks and 20 home runs allowed.
Despite the results, the Yankees see upside. Chivilli throws hard and generated a combined 43.5% whiff rate on offspeed and breaking pitches in 2025, fueling the organization’s belief that his performance may improve away from hitter-friendly Coors Field.
“We just think we've just added a really nice quality arm to an array of quality arms that we have," Cashman said. "As you know, you never have enough pitching."
Last season, Chivilli went 1-5 with a 7.06 ERA in 43 games for the Rockies. He also made 10 relief appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque, going 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA.
In a corresponding move, the Yankees designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment. Siani had been claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Jan. 23.
Rumfield, meanwhile, could factor into the Rockies’ first-base picture this spring after the club moved on from Michael Toglia in November.
A left-handed hitter, Rumfield slashed .285/.378/.447 with 16 homers and 31 doubles over 138 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season. The 25-year-old was the Yankees’ No. 22 prospect at the end of the year.
The Phillies took Rumfield in the 12th round of the 2021 MLB Draft before trading him to the Yankees with left-hander Joel Valdez for right-hander Nick Nelson and catcher Donny Sands that offseason.
