Mary Giesler joined the Twins organization as its first General Counsel on March 24, 2014. She was promoted to Senior Vice President, General Counsel in December of 2016. As the organization’s chief legal officer, Giesler oversees a team that provides legal counsel and strategic oversight on all business-related matters, while serving as the club’s liaison with Major League Baseball’s legal department.
Since joining the Twins, Giesler has led the club’s legal efforts for the public-private development of Target Field Station, a unique transit hub with public gathering spaces immediately adjacent to Target Field; the construction of a new player-development Academy in the Dominican Republic, which opened in January of 2017; and significant affiliate transactions resulting from 2020’s restructuring of the Major and Minor League Baseball player development model. In 2021, she was named Notable General Counsel by Twin Cities Business.
Prior to joining the Twins organization, Giesler was a long-time partner at the Minneapolis-based law firm of Kaplan, Strangis and Kaplan (KSK), where she served a variety of clients in the areas of public-private partnerships, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities law matters. Prior to joining KSK, Giesler spent eight years at the Minneapolis firm of Lindquist & Vennum. In 2014, she was named an Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer.
Giesler received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law and her B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Minneapolis Regional Chamber.
