ANAHEIM -- The Reds-Angels game on Monday night at Angel Stadium was postponed due to the effects of the storm that hit the Southern California region.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday. The originally scheduled game will remain at 1:07 p.m. PT on Wednesday and will be followed by the makeup game at 6:38 p.m. It’ll be the second doubleheader in five days for the Angels, as they also split a twin bill against the Rays on Saturday when Sunday’s game was rescheduled because of Tropical Storm Hilary.

“The outfield took a big hit,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “As everybody knows, we got a lot more rain here than we normally get. But everybody’s good. The field took a little bit of a hit, but [head groundskeeper] Barney [Lopas] is out there making it perfect like it always is.”

It marks just the 19th home rainout in club history, dating back to 1961, and the 14th since the club moved to Angel Stadium in '66. It’s the first time that the club has had multiple postponed games in a season at home since 1983, when three games in April were rained out.

The Angels announced right-hander Lucas Giolito, who was originally scheduled to start on Monday, will go on Tuesday. Shohei Ohtani will start Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader, and lefty Reid Detmers will start in the nightcap.

Mike Trout also is expected to be activated from the injured list, as there was a chance he was set to return as early as Saturday. Trout has been out since July 3 with a left hamate fracture, but he has been facing live pitching at Angel Stadium. Fellow outfielder Jordyn Adams was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, which would make room for Trout on the roster.

“Mike felt good yesterday and a lot better today,” Nevin said. “We’re taking it day by day. Hopefully, he comes in tomorrow feeling good and we make a decision.”
