Tempe Diablo History
The Angels have held Spring Training in Tempe, AZ since 1993 and play their spring home games at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
The Angels initially signed a 25-year lease (including two five-year options) with the city of Tempe on July 25, 1991, making Tempe Diablo Stadium their spring training facility until 2017. Then on Nov. 8, 2004, the Angels and the city agreed to an extended lease through the year 2025. As part of the new lease agreement, the Tempe Diablo Stadium complex was expanded and renovated to include the club's Minor League spring operations, a project that was completed in time for the 2006 spring training season.
Tempe Diablo Stadium, which is owned and operated by the City of Tempe Parks and Recreation Department, previously housed the Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers (1969-71) and Seattle Mariners (1977-92).
The new Tempe Diablo Stadium complex includes six-and-a-half practice fields in addition to the main stadium, which was dedicated as Gene Autry Field in 1999 in honor of the former Angels' owner who passed away after the 1998 season.
Dimensions of the stadium are 340' down the left field line; 360' down the right field line; 400' to the left and right-center power alleys and 420' to center with an outfield fence height of eight feet. The playing surface is Bermuda natural grass.
Seating capacity for each game at Tempe Diablo Stadium is 9,315 (including seating for the disabled, lawn seats, suites and temporary bleachers).
Parking for the stadium features two parking lots (east and west) with 1,350 paved parking spaces, including two disabled entryways as well as field and service access.
