ANGELS ACQUIRE C JACOB COZART FROM CLEVELAND

ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired minor league C Jacob Cozart from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for OF Jo Adell.

Cozart, 23, is ranked by Baseball America as the #17 prospect in Cleveland’s system and leads the Eastern League with 28 runners caught stealing this season behind the plate. He has batted .239 (68/284) with 34 runs scored, 11 doubles, 10 home runs, 44 RBI, and a .714 OPS in 79 games for Double-A Akron in 2026. In 21 games in June, the backstop hit .280 (21/75) with a .823 OPS and seven multi-hit games. Cozart has also batted .266 (37/139) with a .784 OPS and 40 RBI with runners on base, and has posted a .273 (50/183) average and .815 OPS against right-handed pitchers. On the season, he has posted a .988 fielding percentage in 577 innings as a catcher.

An Orlando, FL native, Cozart was originally selected by Cleveland in the second round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft from North Carolina State University.

Adell, 27, has batted .239 (101/423) with 16 home runs and 62 RBI in 111 games for the Angels this season. For his career, he has hit .224 (433/1934) with 91 home runs and 288 RBI in 571 games across parts of seven seasons with the Angels. Adell was the Angels first round selection (10th overall) in the 2017 Draft.
