Dodgers' bullpen injuries continue to pile up as Treinen (elbow) lands on IL

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers lost another member of their bullpen to an injury, as right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation ahead of Saturday night's game against the Orioles.

Righty was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to bolster the bullpen. McDermott posted a 5.40 ERA with the Comets and pitched a scoreless inning in his lone appearance for L.A. earlier this season.

Treinen last pitched on Friday, tossing a scoreless top of the ninth inning before the Dodgers walked off the Orioles, 6-5, on a Dalton Rushing RBI single and a Baltimore error. The veteran right-hander holds a 3.52 ERA through 29 appearances.

While he came into this season as one of the Dodgers' back-end bullpen arms, Treinen has seen mixed results in leverage, leading to manager Dave Roberts seeking softer landing spots for him in an effort to help him get back on track. Kyle Hurt and Will Klein have emerged as top right-handed leverage options amid Treinen's inconsistency, which dates back to last year.

Treinen joins several of his fellow Dodgers relievers on the IL, but two of them are getting close to returning. Brock Stewart (left foot bone spur) could be activated as soon as Monday in Minnesota. Evan Phillips (Tommy John surgery) is the next closest to returning once he completes his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City in early July.

The Dodgers have also been without their closer, Edwin Díaz, for most of the season after the right-hander had surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow. Díaz took an important step by beginning a bullpen progression this week, keeping him on track to return at some point after the All-Star break.
