Chargois to DL; Venditte recalled to Dodgers

Switch-pitcher joins LA bullpen for eighth time this season

August 22nd, 2018

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers placed right-handed reliever JT Chargois on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday with nerve irritation and recalled switch-pitcher Pat Venditte from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Chargois was removed from Monday night's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals after walking the only batter he faced. He complained of tingling in the fingers of his pitching hand.
Manager Dave Roberts said an MRI exam revealed no serious damage.
"A lot of it was driven by the neck," said Roberts. "As I understand it, not too damaging. The training staff, there was some relief there."
This is Venditte's eighth callup from the Minor Leagues this year.
The Dodgers have placed relievers on the DL 16 times this season.
Worth noting
, on the DL with lower back pain, threw from flat ground on Tuesday, will have a bullpen session on Wednesday and will throw to hitters on Friday.
That would set up the native Texan to be activated for the club's homestand finale against San Diego on Sunday, or for the two-game series against the Rangers in Arlington that starts on Tuesday.
Although Stripling made his first All-Star team as a starter, he's a candidate to return to the bullpen, where he opened the season.
• Roberts said, "I think we claimed" Nationals slugger on revocable waivers, as multiple outlets reported on Tuesday. Washington revoked the waiver. A source said the Dodgers were motivated primarily to block any club ahead of them in the standings from trading for Harper, but his actual acquisition was never considered viable.
Roberts said he wasn't looking to add a slugger to a lineup that already leads the league in home runs.
"Every day I write the lineup, I feel great about it," said Roberts. "It's about us getting baserunners and putting runs across, but I feel really good about the players we have."
