LOS ANGELES -- Just when the Dodgers were starting to get healthy.

The Dodgers have battled through numerous injuries this season. Now, they’ll have to be without infielder Max Muncy, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain just before Saturday’s game against the Rangers. Outfielder Luke Raley was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Muncy was removed from Friday’s 12-1 win against the Rangers in the second inning after experiencing tightness in his right side during his first at-bat, which ended with a 428-foot homer off right-hander Mike Foltynewicz. Utility man Zach McKinstry missed about six weeks with an oblique injury earlier this season, but the Dodgers are hoping Muncy’s injury isn’t as severe. They’re optimistic they “caught it early,” according to manager Dave Roberts.

While the Dodgers will preach that someone else will have to step up, losing Muncy is unquestionably another big blow for the club, both defensively and offensively. Muncy has been the team’s most consistent and dangerous hitter this season, leading the club with 14 homers and a .947 OPS. He’s also second on the team with 33 RBIs.

Muncy also leads the team with a 3.3 bWAR. That’s in large part because of his glovework at both first and second base. He has been playing Gold Glove-caliber defense at first and has been solid enough at second to allow Albert Pujols to get consistent at-bats, especially against left-handed pitching.

With Muncy sidelined for at least ten days -- and possibly longer -- the Dodgers will lean on Pujols and Matt Beaty at first base. Cody Bellinger, who is dealing with a left hamstring issue of his own, will also get playing time at first base in order to take some pressure off the leg.

At second base, the Dodgers will continue to rely on McKinstry, Chris Taylor and Gavin Lux. Andy Burns, who was activated on Saturday, will also get some playing time. He was in the lineup at second base for the middle game against the Rangers.

As for Raley, he gives the Dodgers another left-handed hitter off the bench. Raley has played in 23 games with the Dodgers this season, posting a .182 batting average. He has had much more success in Triple-A, posting a 1.120 OPS in 19 games.
