Milwaukee backs Brewers as NBA's Bucks shift time of home opener for World Series

For the first time since 1982, Milwaukee is getting ready for the World Series.

The Brewers are returning to the Fall Classic for the first time in 44 years following a sweep of the back-to-back World Series champion Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Game 1 of the World Series against either the Rays or the Guardians is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23.

That’s also when the Milwaukee Bucks are slated to open their 2026-27 season at the Fiserv Forum. To avoid a conflict with the World Series, the NBA and the Bucks are shifting the home opener up to a 3 p.m. CT tip-off “in recognition of this historic occasion,” the organization announced on Friday.

“The Brewers’ return to the World Series for the first time in 44 years is a special moment for Milwaukee and sports fans across Wisconsin,” the Bucks said in a statement posted on X. “Congratulations to the Brewers and the entire organization on this tremendous achievement, and we’ll be cheering them on as they begin their World Series run.”

Elsewhere in Wisconsin, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur wore a Brewers baseball cap during his press conference on Friday morning.

“I want to support the Brewers,” LaFleur said. “That was pretty cool to watch last night.”
