Nationals shortstop Trea Turner underwent surgery on his broken right index finger on Saturday, and he shared a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram following the procedure. The 26-year-old broke the finger when he squared to bunt and was hit by a pitch from the Phillies' Zach Eflin on April 2 in Washington.

Turner surprisingly returned to the field six weeks later and played through pain the rest of the season, still managing to hit .298/.353/.497 with 19 home runs and 35 stolen bases during the regular season to help the Nationals reach the postseason and win the first World Series championship in franchise history.

Turner alluded to the fact that he played with the finger broken for a long period in his Instagram post, writing, "Only took 7 months to get this finger fixed but now my [World Series] ring will fit better!"

The Nationals defeated the Astros in seven games in the World Series. During the postseason, Turner went 17-for-73 (.233) with four doubles and a home run.
