2012 Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run national finalists announced

The 24 national finalists in the 2012 Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition, the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball, were announced yesterday live on MLB Tonight on MLB Network. These 24 boys and girls will compete at the National Finals taking place during MLB All-Star Week in Kansas City, MO. The competition will take place on Monday, July 9 at 2:15 p.m. CT prior to Gatorade All-Star Workout Day, on the field at Kauffman Stadium. More than 685,000 youth participated in over 4,000 competitions that took place across North America. For the third year in a row, a nationwide Girls Softball Division was part of the program which allowed girls to compete and advance separately from the boys throughout the competition.

            Pitch, Hit & Run (PHR) invites youth to demonstrate their skills by competing in pitching, hitting and running competitions. PHR participants can advance through four levels of competition, beginning at the local level, which can be hosted by organizations, leagues, or volunteers within a community, and continuing through sectional and team competitions. All 30 MLB Clubs hosted team championships at their ballparks on weekends from May 26 through June 24. The top three competitors nationwide from each age group (7-­8, 9-­10, 11-­12 and 13-­14) advance to the 2012 Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run National Finals.

            In addition to the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run National Finals, the 24 finalists will make a special trip to MLB All-Star FanFest, an interactive baseball theme park and the largest baseball fan event in the world. Among its attractions are an exhibit from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, batting cages, clinics from Major League legends, free autograph sessions with former Royals, MLB legends and Hall of Famers, memorabilia and much more.

     Gatorade All-Star Workout Day is the second day of 2012 MLB All-Star Week events at Kauffman Stadium. The day features American League and National League batting practice followed by the State Farm Home Run Derby, where four players from each League participate in a home run hitting contest with rounds consisting of 10 outs. In addition to coverage on ESPN, the 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby will be broadcast live on ESPN HD, ESPN 3D, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV, and ESPN Radio in the U.S. as well as ESPN International beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT on Monday, July 9th.

The 2012 All-Star Game will be played at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, July 10th.  The 83rd All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International’s independent feed.  Pregame ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)/6:30 p.m. (CDT).  ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game.  MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.  For more information, please visit allstargame.com or royals.com/asg.
