Angels in the Outfield Turns 20

This year marks the 20th anniversary of a classic baseball movie featuring an incredible cast, Angels in the Outfield. In honor of this fine film, we took a look at the current pursuits of some of its most notable actors.

Danny Glover: George Knox

Glover steals the show as Angels grumpy manager George Knox, who finds a heart and ultimately adopts Roger and J.P. He's still active, with roles on multiple current television series.

Brenda Fricker: Maggie Nelson

Fricker plays the loving foster mom, Maggie Nelson, who has the boys' best interests at heart and is among the most likable characters in the film. An Oscar winner in 1990, the 69-year-old actress recently appeared in Glenn Close's Albert Nobbs.

Tony Danza: Mel Clark

The staff ace, Clark is the first player to embrace Roger and enjoys a renaissance in the second half of the season. In doing so, he plays an integral role in the Angels' pennant run. Danza, of course, is among the most high-profile actors in the film and his career is going strong. In a twist of fate, he plays the father of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character in the critically acclaimed Don Jon.

Christopher Lloyd: Al the Boss Angel

Lloyd stars as Al the boss angel, who befriends Roger and grants his wish in helping the Angels win the pennant. Best known for his role as Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future films, he's now 75 years old and still makes cameos on television shows. In 2013, he appeared in episodes of Raising Hope and Psych.

Jay O. Sanders: Ranch Wilder

Sanders has continued to find success on and off-screen, appearing in True Detective on HBO and in Off-Broadway productions of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Roger Bomman

JGL needs no introduction. He’s grown up to become one of Hollywood’s foremost leading men in movies like (500) Days of Summer and Inception.

Neal McDonough: Whitt Bass

After playing the slack-witted pitcher Whitt Bass, McDonough’s found success in movies and on TV, where he was a regular on Desperate Housewives and Justified.

Adrien Brody: Danny Hemmerling

Like JGL, Brody needs little introduction. He won an Oscar for his performance in The Pianist and has become a Wes Anderson favorite in movies like The Darjeeling Limited.

Dermot Mulroney: Mr. Bomman (Roger's Dad)

It was all for him. The wish, the angels, everything. Yet, despite the Angels' success, Roger's father backs out of his promise and is essentially the villain in the film. Mulroney, though, has enjoyed an impressive career in movies and television, with recent roles on New Girl and Enlightened.

Matthew McConaughey: Ben Williams

Another guy who’s done pretty well for himself, McConaughey just won an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, but more importantly, he’s made a few appearances as Roy McDaniel in Eastbound & Down.
