A's players donate playoff share to charities

Major League Baseball Players Association representative and A's pitcher Jerry Blevins informed the A's front office on Tuesday the players voted to donate a full playoff share, totaling $34,325.16, to various local and national charities in the spirit of the holiday season.

"During the playoff share meetings, we decided as a team that we wanted to give back to the community by donating one full share to various charities that are near and dear to our hearts," Blevins said in a release.

The donations will be split between the MLB Players Trust, UMPS CARE, Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, Oakland A's Community Fund, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, United Way of the Bay Area, Donnie Moore Ministries and the "Strike 3 Foundation."
