Astros and Bun B partner with New Era to release limited edition cap
Cap to be released on September 16, available exclusively at Academy Sports + Outdoors and Astros team stores
HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros and Houston icon Bun B have teamed up with New Era to design and release a new, limited edition Astros cap. The cap features an original design created by Bun B and New Era artists and will be exclusively available at Academy Sports + Outdoors and the Astros team stores in Minute Maid Park starting on Tuesday, September 16.
The project seeks to blend the retro colors and aesthetic of the Astros with a fresh, new design that speaks to the pride Houstonians feel for their baseball team and their city.
"The Astros star and specifically the old school color scheme with the white, orange and red is what most people recognize Houston by, and we're happy to represent it," said Bun B. "I love it, I'm happy the team went back to it and we understand what that means not just to Houston, but to baseball fans in general. It's good to see the team representing that and the organization being proud to go back to those days of glory."
Many members of the young Astros team grew up listening to Bun B's music and, Bun B, who has been an ardent supporter of the Astros and all Houston sports teams, saw this as an opportunity to give back to the team and the Houston community. As a community activist and college professor, Bun B has also been in vocal support of the Astros RBI, Urban Youth Academy and Community Leaders programs, which teach young athletes important life skills and lessons both on and off the field.
The project also incorporates Houston-based partner Academy Sports + Outdoors as the exclusive retail vendor for the limited edition Astros cap. In addition to buying the caps in Academy Sports + Outdoors retail locations and the Astros team stores at Minute Maid Park, fans can order the caps from Academy Sports + Outdoors online or by calling the Astros team stores at 713-259-8077.
In promotion of the cap's release, Bun B will be throwing out the first pitch at the Astros game on Tuesday, September 16. On Tuesday, September 30, Academy Sports + Outdoors will host a free autograph signing and promotional event at their 2404 Southwest Freeway location in Houston. Bun B, Astros reliever Tony Sipp and other VIP guests will be on hand to model the new hat, sign autographs and celebrate the release of the new cap with Astros fans.
