Baseball America names Beane exec of year

Athletics general manager wins award from publication for second time

A's general manager Billy Beane was named the 2013 Major League Baseball Executive of the Year by Baseball America on Tuesday. It is the second time he has received the award, the first time coming in 2002.

After the A's went 74-88 in 2011, Beane traded away three All-Star pitchers (Gio Gonzalez, Trevor Cahill and Andrew Bailey ) for a number of young players who helped with Oakland's resurgence.

The A's have won 194 games over the last two seasons, winning back-to-back American League West titles.

Beane has also been named Executive of the Year twice by The Sporting News (1999 and 2012).
