Ausmus turns down interview invite from Marlins

Brad Ausmus talked to the Astros and Red Sox about their managerial openings, but the former catcher isn't interested in the Marlins.

Miami asked the Padres, Ausmus' employer, to speak to the 43-year-old special assistant to Padres general manager Josh Byrnes, according to the Miami Herald, but Ausmus said he was not interested. The Marlins dismissed former manager Ozzie Guillen earlier this week.

Ausmus also said he had interviewed for the Astros job because he was a longtime player for the organization, but that he withdrew his name from consideration for that position "for personal reasons."

Ausmus played parts of 18 seasons in the Major Leagues for the Astros, Tigers, Padres and Dodgers and is considered by many to be among the top up-and-coming managers available.
