Stats of the Day: Kershaw stands tall vs. Giants
Here are five interesting items from around the big leagues on Tuesday …
• The Dodgers' National League West-clinching 8-0 victory over the Giants was led, highlighted and sparked by Clayton Kershaw's one-hit shutout. In the effort, Kershaw struck out 13 and walked one. Kershaw has thrown five shutouts against San Francisco. Among Dodgers hurlers since 1914, those five are tied for the third most. Don Sutton had eight, Don Drysdale threw seven and Dazzy Vance produced five. Kershaw has three shutouts in which he has struck out at least 13. Those three are the second most for any Dodgers pitcher since 1914, with only Sandy Koufax having more (10).
• First baseman Lucas Duda homered twice in the Mets' 4-3 loss to the Phillies for his seventh multihomer game of the season. Duda's seven tie the franchise record, first set by Dave Kingman in 1976 and then matched by Carlos Delgado in 2008.

• In the Red Sox's 10-4 win over the Yankees, catcher Blake Swihart hit two homers and drove in five. At 23 years and 179 days old, Swihart became the third-youngest player since 1914 to drop two home runs and five RBIs against the Yanks when visiting the Bombers. On July 13, 1945, Indians right fielder Pat Seerey was 22 years and 118 days old as he hit three and drove in eight. Earlier this season -- on June 22 -- Phils third baseman Maikel Franco was 22 years and 300 days old for his two-homer, five-RBI performance.
• In the Cubs' 4-1 win over the Reds, Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch for the 30th time this season. In being plunked, he joined Don Baylor (1986) as the only players to hit 30 or more homers and be hit by pitches at least 30 times. In '86, Baylor hit 31 and was hit 35 times. Rizzo has 30 home runs.

• The Rockies lost, 4-3, to the D-backs, but Carlos Gonzalez did connect for his 40th home run this season. With Gonzalez and teammate Nolan Arenado each hitting the 40 mark, 2015 is the third year in franchise history Colorado has seen multiple players reach the plateau. In 1996, Ellis Burks, Vinny Castilla and Andres Galarraga each reached 40. The following season, Castilla, Galarraga and Larry Walker each hit 40. From 1996-2015, there are 16 teams to have multiple players with at least 40 homers in a season. Four Mariners teams appear, making Seattle the only franchise to have more representatives than Colorado. For the Mariners, Jay Buhner and Ken Griffey, Jr. did this in 1996 and '97, and Griffey and Alex Rodriguez did it in 1998 and '99.
Milestone watch for Wednesday
• Dee Gordon needs three hits to mark the fourth time a Marlins player has had a 200-hit season. He would join Juan Pierre (204 in 2003 and 221 in '04 and Hanley Ramirez (212 in 2007).
• Albert Pujols needs one RBI to tie Cal Ripken, Jr. (1,695) for 25th all time.
