Stats of the Day: KC's 3 thieves of bases

Here are five interesting items from around the big leagues on Tuesday …

• In the Royals' 3-1 win over the Reds, Jarrod Dyson stole one base (in one attempt), Lorenzo Cain was 2-for-2 in stolen-base attempts and Alcides Escobar was successful in his only attempt. Since the start of the 2012 season, Dyson is tied for fifth in steals (123), Escobar is 14th (100) and Cain is tied for 28th (76). Among the 29 players with at least 75 steals in these past four seasons, Escobar ranks second in stolen-base percentage, Dyson ranks third and Cain ranks sixth.

• Mets leadoff hitter Curtis Granderson homered in the first and in the fifth to help New York to a 5-3 victory over Baltimore. Granderson has homered to lead off the game seven times this season, and he has done it 35 times in his career. The seven in 2015 are the most for a Mets player in a season, eclipsing the six by Jose Reyes in 2006. Granderson's 35 tie him with Bobby Bonds for the seventh most in history. When Bonds ended his career, his 35 were the most all time.

• Alex Rodriguez connected on his 25th home run of the season -- a seventh-inning grand slam -- to help propel the Yankees to an 8-4 victory over the Twins. The slam was Rodriguez's 25th, extending his Major League record (Lou Gehrig is second, with 23). A-Rod has amassed at least 25 home runs in 15 seasons, tying Babe Ruth, Frank Robinson and Reggie Jackson for the third most in history. Hank Aaron and Bonds share the title for the most, with 18 apiece.

• The Pirates defeated the D-backs in 15 innings to extend their winning streak in extra-inning games to eight, the longest for the club since winning nine in a row in 2008.

• Ichiro Suzuki produced his 51st career game with at least four hits as the Marlins defeated the Brewers, 9-6. Since 1914, four players have had more once turning 27 years old but before turning 42. Ty Cobb had 64, George Sisler collected 54 and Sam Rice and Pete Rose had 52.

Milestone watch for Wednesday

• David Ortiz needs two homers to tie Gehrig and Fred McGriff (493) for 27th all time. Ortiz also needs just one double to tie Ivan Rodriguez (572) for 23rd all time.

• Albert Pujols needs two home runs to tie Manny Ramirez (555) for 14th all time. Pujols is also sitting one base shy of becoming the 22nd player with at least 4,900 in a career.
