Phillies, Jesús Luzardo and Independence Blue Cross Distribute School Supplies for Local Students
Before Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins, over 100 local students, including Phillies Nike RBI athletes, came to Citizens Bank Park for a special “Stock the Classroom” event at Citizens Bank Park. Pitcher Jesús Luzardo and Independence Blue Cross, along with the Phillies, teamed up to distribute backpacks and school supplies to the youngsters before the start of the new school year.
Many of the supplies were donated by Phillies fans before a home game earlier this month, as well as by Phillies and IBX employees.
Members of the IBX Blue Crew, as well as Dr. Brenda Elliott, Deputy Superintendent of Academics for the School District of Philadelphia, helped Luzardo hand out all the much-needed supplies and backpacks. The students were also treated to lunch, and got to play in the Wiffle Ball field at The Yard with Luzardo and the Phillie Phanatic.
The event served as a continuation of Phillies & IBX Give Back, featuring monthly volunteer and community engagement efforts across the region.
